Ring In The New Year With Earmuffs

It was windy and freezing in NYC yesterday and my friends were talking about the importance of earmuffs. I don't know what it is about the cold, but even if my core is warm, I'm miserable if my hands and ears are cold. I spent the morning looking for some cute earmuffs, and I thought I would share some of my finds with you all. It you happen to live somewhere that doesn't get cold enough for earmuffs, consider yourself lucky!

In NYC, we usually have our headphones on as we're walking around, and it's kind of uncomfortable to wear earmuffs on top of your headphones. These earmuffs from Macy's solve that problem because they have built in headphones so you can keep you ears warm and toasty while listening to your favorite tunes.

Sporto Earmuffs, Cable Faux Fur With Detachable Wire  - $21.99 (originally $38)

I like the look, feel, and price of these earmuffs from Urban Outfitters. The neutral color ensures that it will go with whatever you wear, and it's a little cuter than some of the boring earmuffs out there. They also look super warm.

Are you "mad for plaid?" If so, you have to get these plaid earmuffs from J. Crew Factory. They're on sale for only $10.

Factory Plaid Earmuff  - $10 (originally $26.50)

I love that these earmuffs from Topshop look like furry snowballs on your ears. I also like the lighter color. I have dark hair and I feel like black earmuffs look strange, because they look like part of my hair. At just under $25, these are a great deal.

Ring In The New Year In Style

Well, the Mayans were wrong, the world did not end, and now we've made it to the end of 2012. Time for resolutions and a spike in traffic at the gym. What is everyone doing to ring in the new year? More importantly, what is everyone wearing? With all the after Christmas deals, now is a great time to get something pretty for NYE. Check out some of my favs...

I love shopping in the Juniors section at Nordstrom. Not only is everything in that section affordable, but there the clothes are quality. I can't say the same for the juniors section at other department stores. I love a winter white dress, and this dress has just the right amount of sequins combined with a fun back.

As U Wish Sequin Tulle Cutout Dress - $68

Hi/lo dresses or mullet dresses as I call them were everywhere this year, and they are still in style right now. This dress combines the hi/lo trend with sequins for a hot NYE look.

For something a little bit more affordable, check out this one shoulder sequined dress. It's got tons of great reviews, it's on sale, and it is super cute. It's shown in black, but it also comes in white and gold.

Way-In Sequin One Shoulder Dress  - $34.80  (originally $58)

Looking for something that doesn't scream NYE and that you can wear again? This is the perfect dress from Forever 21. Lace is always classy and the length is not too long, not too short. You can wear this to weddings, out for drinks, or to a work event. It's even got great reviews, and it comes in black or ivory. I think the ivory is the perfect rehearsal dinner dress.

Thrifty Holiday Style At Kmart

I had the opportunity to volunteer this weekend with Catholic Charities' St. Nicholas Project through the Junior League, where we were given a family to shop for at Kmart in East Village. Each family member was allocated $50, and we picked out Christmas outfits, coats, socks, basically whatever the family needed. It was so much fun, and I would definitely do it again. I'll admit, I was not expecting to find anything at Kmart that I would actually wear, but I was totally surprised. There were several really cute items, and since it was Kmart, it was totally affordable. Some of my favs are below...

I've been loving navy lately, and I really love this skirt. It's unbelievable that it is under $15. This is perfect to wear to work and then out later to meet friends for dinner/drinks.

Jaclyn Smith Women's Tiered Petal Pencil Skirt - $14.99 (originally $24.99)

Coats can be so bulky, which is why I am a fan of coats with a cinched waist like the one below. I also really like the A-line cut, and black goes with everything. This is such a great price. Get it while it's still on sale (60% off).

Route 66 Women's A-Line Dress Coat - $31.99  (originally $79.99)

My last post was about fair isle style, and when I spotted these fair isle slippers in the store, I knew I had to have them. I love the colors and the fur accent. They are super soft, super warm, and super cheap. These are a great addition to a gift of pajamas or even a great roommate present.

Keepin' It Comfy In Cashmere At Uniqlo

Uniqlo, often referred to as the "Japanese GAP" is a great store for low-priced cashmere and inexpensive jeans. When you walk in, the floors, walls, and ceilings of the store are white, and the only color comes from the stacks of sweaters piled high along the walls. I am a big fan of cashmere (my thin cashmere sweaters are even warmer than some of my bulky wool sweaters), and the price is definitely affordable at Uniqlo.

Uniqlo Women Cashmere V Neck Sweater - $39.90  (originally $89.90)

Want even more cashmere? Check out this cashmere blend scarf. In comes in several different colors, so you're bound to like one of them. Even at the originally price this is a great deal.

Uniqlo Women Cashmere Blend Scarf - $12.90 (originally $19.90)

Looking for some cozy gloves to keep your hands warm this winter? At the sale price, these gloves are a steal! Who ever heard of cashmere blend gloves under $10?

'Tis The Season For Fair Isle

It's finally gotten chilly in NYC, the tree is lit at Rockefeller Center, and the stores are packed with Christmas shoppers. It's officially "the most wonderful time of the year!" It also means that it's time to break out your fair isle gear. Fair isle is back in a big way, and if you have no idea what I'm talking about, it's those sweaters/socks/whatever with wintery looking patterns.

For a free history lesson, "fair isle" is actually a knitting technique used to create patterns, and it is named for Fair Isle, a tiny island north of Scotland. I think the patterns are a nice change from the usual single colored winter sweater. Check out some of my favorite fair isle items this season...

I love the colors of this cardigan, and it's on sale. This is great, to add some color to a t-shirt and jeans outfit, and it's on sale!

Asos - A Wear Fair Isle Edge Cardigan - $56.29  (originally $70.36)

American Eagle is great for stocking up on casual wear, and they have a ton of fair isle sweaters, socks, hats, you name it. I really like this fair isle bag. Not only is it under $20, but it is a cross-body, which is always great, and the fair isle print makes it kind of different and fun.

AEO Fair Isle Flap Bag - $19.99 (originally $24.95)

With all the Kate Middleton baby news, I've been thinking that I've been thinking that I need to swing by one of my favorite UK transplants - TopShop. I was just on their website, and I saw these cute fair isle socks. These are great for jazzing up a Christmas outfit, or just for keeping your toes warm this winter.

This is a great time to shop at the Gap, because they're offering 30% off your online purchase. I'll be honest, I kind of hate wearing pants. Wait, that came out weird, let me clarify - I love wearing dresses even in the freezing cold, and I use sweater tights to make it more bearable. In fact, I think sweater tights are warming that a lot of work slacks. These fair isle sweater tights are a fun take on the usual tights, and I bet they're super warm.

Ok, I'll admit, I'm not sure what to think of these Nike fair isle leggings, but the Junior League is having an Apres Ski party in January, and I think these could be perfect for my outfit. I think I would wear these as regular leggings under a sweater, but I guess they're intended to jazz up your workout wardrobe.

Target + Neiman Marcus Is Finally Here

The Target/Neiman Marcus collaboration is online, and in stores, and shockingly, it looks like most items are still available online. For those that follow this blog regularly, you know that I completely adore Marc Jacobs, and I've dreamed about a Marc Jacobs line for Target for as long as the designer collaborations have been in existence. The line not only features MJ, but also Tory Burch, Robert Rodriguez, Proenza Schouler, Marchesa, and many more. Check out my favorite picks below...

With the holiday season here, this Robert Rodriguez (the L.A. designer, not the director of Spy Kids) dress is perfect for Christmas parties, New Year's Eve parties, or even weddings. You can never have enough little black dresses, and with the lace, and ribbon detail, this dress is so pretty.

Robert Rodriguez Dress - $99

Tory Burch, a favorite of the preppy crowd, made this lunchbox for the stylish girl. I don't know how much a kid would like it, but as an adult, I can't think of a cuter way to bring my lunch to work. I love the print, and I love Tory Burch. At under $20, how can you not get one of these.

Don't bring your lunch to work? This could be used for so many other things like as a makeup bag, or something to put your wet swimsuit into after a day at the beach. I think this could make a great and inexpensive travel accessory.

Fur vests were everywhere last year, and they still in style this season. I really like that this Skaist-Taylor vest has the extra added shoulder part. I think this would be great for girls with a small frame. It's a little pricey, but most well made faux fur vests are, and you can't see it in the picture below, but the vest has a fun pink lining.

If you're not familiar with Skaist-Taylor, the brand founded by the co-founders of Juicy Couture, Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor.

Thrifty/Trendy Stocking Stuffers

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving! The end of Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the most wonderful time of the year - Christmas! Since people are watching their budgets, I thought it would be a good idea to feature some inexpensive gifts/stocking stuffers.

I love shopping at Urban Outfitters, and their apartment/home section has all sorts of fun little items for Christmas. Here are three of my picks from this quirky store:

This raspberry shower cap comes in a can that says "raspberry beret," too cute and on sale!

Shower Cap - $6 (originally $9)

I love Hello Kitty and all things Sanrio, and I like keeping my ID case easily accessible. I like this slim case, because not only is it adorable, it makes it easy to access my ID, credit cards, or even my business cards. It also doesn't hurt that it's on sale for $10.

Hello Kitty ID Case - $10  (originally $15)

Monogramming is so popular these days and so is delicate necklaces. I am a big fan of this initial heart locket, and it actually opens up. I'm not sure that you would have a picture that small of it, but it's still pretty cool and a great price.

I've featured several items from C. Wonder in the past, and I always find something cute when I pop i
into their Soho store on Spring Street. As I've mentioned, C. Wonder was started by Tory Burch's ex-husband, and features preppy baubles priced for the masses.

The Fox Stud Earrings are perfect for your foxy friends! Anything animal related is pretty popular and foxes are just plain awesome. I want a pair of these for myself.

Not sure what to buy for your officemate or for your secretary? This mug is the perfect gift, and at just $10, you can pick one up for yourself. I always bring a cute mug for the office. It makes the work day more fun, and my desk area more pleasant.

Anthropologie is such a great store. It reminds me of a closet full of goodies collected by a world traveler. Some of my friends avoid the store, because they thing everything there is expensive, but it is one of my favorite places to find one of a kind looking gifts for my girl friends. There are tons of deals when there is a sale, and you can find some reasonably priced accessories.

With the weather getting colder, I have been looking to add some winter accessories that are functional and stylish. I absolutely love these gloves. They are made of wool, so you know they are warm, and they are so girly and pretty with the bright yellow buttons and pink leather trim.

Kate Spade Saturday - Not Just A Day Of The Week

I love Kate Spade, but I don't always love the price points. If you feel like me, you're in luck, because Kate Spade is launching Saturday, a new, more affordable line. It doesn't launch online until March, but in the meantime, check out the preview below.

It appears that the pricing will be similar to C. Wonder. Apparel will retail for $90, jewelry for $30, shoes for $85, and swimwear for $50. For those of you who missed my post on C. Wonder, it was started by Tory Burch's ex-husband, and it has been criticized as coming across as a Tory Burch knockoff.

Emmy Awards Fashion *Live Updates*

It's showtime! I leave you with a picture of the always beautiful Sofia Vergara. Who do you all think is the best dressed? I'm still on the fence. Check back after the show for my pick!

I'm a huge Ginnifer Goodwin fan, but not really digging this dress. Considering that she's on a show about fairy tales, this looks a little too much like something her character would wear.

Mrs. Draper #2 was a vision in white, while Mrs. Draper #1 rocked it in black. Who looks better? I love January Jones' dress, but not a fan of the hair.

What does everyone think of Hayden Panettiere in Marchesa? I'm loving navy right now, and the draping gives it an Indian feel. Thumbs up from me!

Heidi Klum looks stunning! I love the sea foam green and the thigh high slits.

Speaking of Mad Men, check out Jessica Pare (aka Megan Draper) wearing Jason Woo. The second Mrs. Draper is keeping it classy!

And here is Kiernan Shipka looking adorable. Little Sally Draper is growing up so fast!

Are you all as excited as I am to check out all the gorgeous gown on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards tonight? Check back tonight for my recap of the most fabulous dresses!

In the meantime, who do you think will win? I am rooting for Jon Hamm and the cast of Mad Men. I'm also rooting for my favorite "new girl" Zooey Deschanel.

FNO Recap

I hope you all had a fabulous night last Thursday! Our night included honeydew cocktails at Bendels, lots of champagne at Michael Kors, and free cupcakes at Georgetown Cupcake in Soho. I just wanted to share this pic from Henri Bendel with you all.

One more... Here is Nina Garcia at Lord & Taylor
